Room for One More
In 1965, Jazz singer Irene Reid worked with musician, composer and arranger Oliver Nelson to make the Verve label album, Room For One More. Nelson brought pop and pop soul aspects to the material and Reid handled them very well. The title track is a great example, as it swings AND has contemporary sound. She also frames its jaunty cynicism well. And when I find out why all the youtube clips of Reid's songs from this album have scenes from French films, I'll let you know, too!
