WholesomeRadio Album Feature: Songs for a Scientist by Post Office Winter

Post Office Winter's debut album is the perfect soundtrack for a snow day.

Whether you’re locking yourself inside with a cup of tea or layering up to brave the cold, Songs for a Scientist playing in the background is sure to warm you up.

Fittingly, Songs for a Scientist was made by sixteen year olds Charlie Johnston and Sadie Huffman during the dead of winter in Chicago. Their entire recording and mixing process was done in the bitter cold of Johnston’s garage, around the warmth of a space heater. The band’s DIY approach favors them here, practically bringing this atmosphere to life. The inevitable lo-fi sound that comes from recording at home with limited equipment makes the record feel hazy yet familiar, radiating the same comfort the space heater for them did in the process.

Combining elements of noise and folk with subtle twists, the first release from Post Office Winter is both contemplative and mysterious. Listening to Songs for a Scientist is like transporting to a different reality inside postcards and lost letters, where warmth is found from the words written down.
