The Voice Of Love

The Voice of Love is the second album by American dream pop singer Julee Cruise. It was released on October 12, 1993. Several tracks on the album originated from earlier works by filmmaker David Lynch. "Up in Flames" was featured in Lynch's 1990 musical play, "Industrial Symphony No. 1." The album also includes "Questions in a World of Blue," an instrumental rendition of "She Would Die for Love," and an instrumental of "The Voice of Love," all of which were part of the soundtrack for the David Lynch-directed movie "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me." In this film, Cruise also had a cameo. Additionally, an instrumental version of "Kool Kat Walk" was used in Lynch's 1990 movie "Wild at Heart."

Julee Ann Cruise was a notable American vocalist and actress, who was born on December 1, 1956, and passing away on June 9, 2022. She gained recognition for her work in the late 1980s and early 1990s with composer Angelo Badalamenti and filmmaker David Lynch. Her discography includes four albums, starting with "Floating into the Night" in 1989.

Before encountering David Lynch via his preferred composer Angelo Badalamenti, the singer from Iowa, Julee Ann Cruise, possessed a powerful, expansive voice typical of musical theater. Badalamenti, who first crossed paths with Cruise during a production in Greenwich Village that he composed, was initially skeptical about her suitability for the ethereal, Elizabeth Fraser-like vocals that Lynch desired for the main theme of "Blue Velvet." However, Cruise proved adaptable, tempering her powerful voice by envisioning herself as a soloist in a boy's choir. Under Lynch's guidance, she was directed to sing angelically. As their partnership evolved, Lynch encouraged her to sing as if she were on the verge of ecstasy.
