Tonight's Show DJ PI will be playing mid 60's music from Lagos, Nigeria! The featured artist include Orlando Julius and Fela Kuti.
Orlando Julius started as a famous highlife act in Nigeria during the 1960's, his first single titled "Igbehin Adara" came out within his first year. Despite the fame he had garnared he remained unknown in the US until the 2000's when his album "Super Afro Soul" was re-released.
Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti began his career in 1967 where he developed a unique style he named "afrobeat", this style was a combination highlife, funk, jazz, and more. In 1969 he traveled with his band to LA where he was inspired by the Black Power movement and incoparted these ideals into his music. He released several albums between 1970-1980, the albums included, "Zombie" and "Egypt 80". Kuti is regarded as a master artist for his ability to incoprate poltical discussion into his music.
