In 1969 Boz Scaggs came out of the The Steve Miller Band and Atlantic Records released his first solo self-titled debut. Led Zeppelin also released their follow up record II in 1969 which may have overshadowed Boz Scaggs debut in America. Included in his first solo record was the major song "Loan Me a Dime" which is a re-working of a great Fenton Robinson song from 1967 called "Somebody (Loan Me a Dime). It's worth noting that on the debut Scaggs is credited for writing "Loan Me a Dime" which caused controversy but later he backtracked from the credit. Ultimately Fenton Robinson, Jesse Anderson, and Willie Middlebrooks were awarded the correct credit for writing "Loan Me a Dime"
On a lighter note Boz Scaggs debut was recorded at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and a young Duane Allman tears it down with hot guitar on the long version of "Loan Me a Dime"
In 1971 Boz Scaggs signed with Columbia Records for the next few records. We heard a sweet soul song track called "We Were Always Sweethearts". After that we heard return to the blues track "Runnin' Blue" and lastly we heard a funky R&B track with a sax solo and harder and impassioned vocals song called "I Got Your Number".
In 1997 Boz Scaggs released a "in dedication to African American Roots Music" called Come On Home. The bulk of the songs on this release are covers of 50's, 60's, 70's, and even 80's blues R&B and soul. We heard a cover of the R&B hit "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)". After that we heard a cover "Come On Home" a Syl Johnson song. Next we hear a cover of an Earl King song called "It All Went Down the Drain". We followed that track with two Bobby Bland covers songs, one called "Ask Me 'Bout Nothin' (But the Blues)" and the other called “Don't Cry No More”. And last but not least and my favorite one off of this release was a Jimmy Reed cover of "Found Love".
Come On Home was not a popular record with the label and Boz Scaggs released a few more similar themed records like this one but none of them were ever effective and persuasive as this one.
