Soul Station Feature: Orlándo Guerra 'Cascarita'
Pa'Que Te Dure
I've posted music featuring the Cuban singer Cascarita (Orlando Guerra) before, especially his work from the mid 1940s with Orquesta Casino de la Playa and Perez Prado on piano. Evidently, even after the two men officially severed professional ties with the orchestra, they kept making appearances with it in the recording studio. There are many great Casino de la Playa 78s from 1947 and 1948, that clearly have both performing! Here is one, a wonderful guaracha with an excellent horn arrangement that combines the suave and the very bright. And Prado takes one of his dazzling, dissonant and almost impish solos that made him perhaps the most daring Cuban pianist of that time!
