Day 6 - Have A Careful Christmas - 9 Dayz of Geezer Senior
Sweet Wreath
In the summer of 1971, the band Black Sabbath released their third LP, “Masters of Reality.” The record begins with the song “Sweat Leaf.” We all know what that song is about.
In the spring of 1987, the band Butthole Surfers released their third LP, “Locust Abortion Technician.” The record begins with their interpretation of the Black Sabbath song as “Sweat Loaf.” With it’s spoken word introduction, it’s musical lyrics consisting only of “vocables,” (that’s what those “yeah, yeah, yeahs”in songs are actually called) and it’s experimental music, it’s hard to tell exactly what the Butthole Surfers mean.
In the winter of 2021, the band Geezer Senior released their third LP, “Have A Careful Christmas.” The record does not begin with their reinterpretation of the Black Sabbath song as “Sweet Wreath” (It’s actually sixth out of nine songs.) Upon listening, you will know what the meaning of Christmas really is. It will change your life. You will know what things “mean” and you won’t be “mean” anymore.
Geezer Senior’s “Sweat Wreath” combines the best elements of both (italicized) previous songs. Geezer Senior’s “Sweet Wreath” adds a brilliant “Little Drummer Boy” interlude. Geezer Senior’s “Sweet Wreath” has trombone accompaniment. Geezer Senior’s “Sweet Wreath” has all new Christmas oriented lyrics. Geezer Senior’s “Sweet Wreath” is the greatest cover song of all time.
