US Punk and New Wave 45's 1975-76

The earliest moments of 70's Punk from the UK have already been covered on two Soul Station π events, so now, I am jumping in to play a number of important and early American records. These initial shots of Punk and Rock energy were exciting to live through, often difficult to hear and find, and they have all held up well after almost 40 years.
If early UK Punk was dominated by bands from London and Manchester, New York City was in many ways a starting point for the Punk outbreak of the mid 1970's. It had the clubs, a low drinking age and had long been the east coast antipode of the record business in Hollywood. The list of artists to make their first records while based in NYC is familiar and important: Patti Smith, Richard Hell, Television, Blondie, and The Ramones.
Nevertheless, the 'hinterlands' of Cleveland, North Carolina and even Montreal provided enough energy for Pere Ubu, Sneakers and Stanley Frank, even though he ended up spending most of his 70's career in London.
If you know the records from the two UK Punk shows, you might agree that the American bands jammed more, were not as straightforwardly political and more rooted in 50's and 60's Rock.
Since I lived through this time, and was working in records stores as well, while slaving away at a graduate degree in Philosophy, I was able to acquire this important music on the 45's as they became available to me, and so like the two UK punk shows, which featured the original 45's, this coverage of American, 70's Punk, is all vinyl except for two Pere Ubu cuts that play much better from CD source.
Here’s to torn t-shirts and pogo dancing!
