Soul Station Feature: Soul Sisters

Think About the Good Times

The Soul Sisters made several records, and an album for the Sue label in the mid 1960's. I Can't Stand It, in 1964, was the biggest, while the second hit, a very Motown sounding gem written by singer-musicians Sidney Barnes and JJ Jackson, might be their best. Barnes became a mainstay of Rotary Connection while Jackson had some huge hits, hug out in the UK, influenced the Pretty Things and had a great little big band as well. The Sisters never really hit bit again and by 1968, and a few more 45's, their career was at an end. I do not know what became of Thresia Cleveland and Ann Gissendanner, who clearly were not sisters.
